OHSO "Buckle Up Family" Productions Stills

Here are some productions stills from a recent commercial we produced for the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. The commercial is centered around a family and the obstacles they face just trying to leave the house, a situation some of us know all too well. Despite the craziness, there is one thing they do not forget, with the help of big sister, and that is to buckle their seat belts. OHSO brought us the idea of the family and director/producer David Harper and I fleshed out the details.

Our shoot took place almost entirely inside this mini van, which handed us some obstacles of our own. But, with the lighting talents of Jon Shryock and Tod Forrester, direction from David Harper, and great performances from our talent, we braved and conquered a long day under the hot July sun and came away with some really great footage.

Subway-Diabetic Menu Options

I recently got to edit a regional Subway spot featuring Jared. The footage was shot by a production company in Kansas City and I posted the footage here in Oklahoma City. The spot was produced to air in Kansas City specifically but we also made a generic version which could potentially run everywhere.

OHSO - Buckles Are My Business

I recently had the great privilege to shoot three rodeo superstars for a "Buckle Up" spot we were commissioned to create for the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. Our set was the Clydesdale Barns at Express Personnel Ranch in Yukon. Our three rodeo stars were super nice and accommodating and did and excellent job on camera. The spot premiered at the big PBR event at the Ford Center this past weekend and is on slate for a heavy television schedule this spring. I edited in Final Cut Pro and graphics/effx in Motion. Senior Living OKC-Wellington Parke

This is the second in a series of spots for Senior Living OKC. In these spots, we're really trying to get away from the traditional point-and-shoot "Here's where you'll stay" and "Here's where you'll eat" type spot and instead try and tell a story. David Harper wrote and directed the spot.

I think everything really fell into place. The talent was good, the location worked out, and I was happy with our lighting, our shooting method, and the final footage. I shot this handheld with an ex1 and dof adapter (my aching back). I edited in FCP, graphics in Motion.

Subway-Order by Numbers

When I initially edited this spot it was only intended for a couple of markets. For whatever reason the Subway folks really took a liking to it. Soon, it was running in several markets including Dallas. I created this spot in Motion utilizing provided graphics by Mason and Moon in OKC.

I recently finished two new spots for Distinctly Oklahoma magazine, with a third to follow shortly. I am really pleased with how they turned out. The theme is that the magazines "speak for themselves." I was tasked with making these magazines with Oklahoma celebs come to life. We shot the talent on the green screen stage there at Garman. Shot in HD, effects in After Effects, edit in FCP. 

"The Faces of Goodwill" Open

This is the opening animation for a long form video I shot and edited earlier this year for Oklahoma Goodwill Industries. We shot supporting broll footage at various Goodwill stores in the metro and Interviews at their headquarters here in downtown Oklahoma City. They help find work for people who are not easily employed but are willing to work and be personally responsible, which is a great and worthwhile cause. Oklahoma Insurance Department - :30 TV Spot

This is a spot I shot and edited a couple of months ago. 

They say the best special effect is the one you don't even notice, can you find it in this spot? Watch the spot again, you might be surprised to learn that Kim never actually visited this pharmacy. Our CVS pharmacy backed out on us at the last second and our producer extraordinaire, David Harper, was tasked with finding a last second pharmacy fill-in. Alas, none were willing to volunteer their space and/or their store posed problematic video production logistics. So, the solution? We videotaped Kim, Oklahoma's Insurance Commissioner, on the green screen stage here at Garman. It would fall on me to make it appear as though Kim had actually physically been in the store. So, how did I do? I performed the chroma key in After Effects along with creating the pill bottle/flying money animation. Our 3D compositor, Jessie, provided me with the 3D piggy bank, and I animated the closing in After Effects. I think the effect that really sells this trick is the harsh shadow behind her on the front counter. You may have not even noticed it until I pointed it out, but subliminally I think it's telling our brain that everything is okay.

Woops, I've been so slammed lately I haven't posted anything in quite a long time. This is the opening and closing graphics for a corporate video I edited recently. Edited in Final Cut, graphics in Motion. 

An Affair of the Heart "OKC FEB 2009"

This is a new look I worked up for An Affair of the Heart to play off of the Spring theme. As with their previous spots the entire thing is graphical and I created this spot in Motion. The flowers that pop up in the middle are from a Digital Juice themekit which I incorporated with the little objects. The background texture I created is a mixture of several elements. One is a starburst background in which I added a vignette effect to. Second, a light rays element from Motion. And finally, the flowers that flow and pop up all over the place. I stole a little flower image from a Digital Juice Juicedrops .psd file and replicated it in Motion with the Write-on Behavior, added various Hue effects for different colored flowers and disbursed them throughout the spot. I hope it makes people really really want to go shop for crafty things.

Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner - Kim Holland

This is one of the first projects since starting at Garman Productions that I was responsible for both shooting and editing. The Producer/Director David Harper and I had to totally rearrange and transform this dining area at a retirment village in Tulsa, which was full of tables and chairs. We also had to flag off an entire wall of windows to cut out any external light and then setup multiple lights, some with gels. I shot this in HD 1080i on the Sony Z1U. Kim was great on camera which made my job much easier. Edited in Final Cut Pro, graphics done in Motion.

Ryan and Amber Honeymoon Film

Ryan and Amber live in Dallas but their honeymoon was in paradise. They took along one of my super 8 cameras and some film and were able to capture these priceless memories.

Derek and Lindsey Wedding Film

Derek and Lindsey are a lot of fun. I was honored to help them remember their wedding day, a beautiful ceremony at a church in the Dallas area.
